Skatalites Tribute Night
Ska music originated in the early 1960's in Jamaica, a natural and masterful blending of 1950's R&B, American jazz, mento, and calypso music re-imagined by a supremely talented group of Jamaican musicians known as the Skatalites. Led by saxophonist Tommy McCook and virtuosic trombonist Don Drummond, the Skatalites laid the groundwork for rocksteady, reggae, and dancehall and countless other genres of music, putting Jamaica on the musical map long before Bob Marley and the Wailers or Lee "Scratch" Perry.
Join us and the Dharma Bums as we pay homage to these musical and cultural trailblazers with a night of Skatalites music, interpreted faithfully by a house band of Connecticut's top musicians.
