Sea Shanty Night: ft. Salty Dick & My Druthers

Jerry Bryant is about as legendary as they come in the world of sea music. His year 2000 release, Roast Beef of New England, is a staple of the genre, and he has toured extensively on both sides of the pond, headlining Sea Shanty Festivals the world over and firmly establishing himself at the vanguard of today’s internationally-renowned shantymen.

My Druthers have performed with him over the years and we pin him as one of the absolute greatest living shantymen in North America, alongside Seán Dagher & the Johnson Girls.

However there is a side to Jerry Bryant that few ever get to see live in person - the bawdiest balladeer & saltiest scallywag most of us will ever hear…Jerry’s foul-mouthed, gutter-minded, sailor-in-a-whorehouse alter-ego, SALTY DICK!

Hard to put it into words really. Think 2 Live Crew on a tallship, but even dirtier, and with far better & more clever lyricism. I first came across ol’ Salty back around 2012 whilst doing research for what was to become My Druthers’ rendition of “Fvck ‘em all.” He had the only recorded version I could find at the time, and I had no idea he was the same dude I’d been listening to for years on Roast Beef of Old England. I heard that song & promptly downloaded the whole album and…WOW. Still haven’t heard anything that even comes close. Talkin bout lyrics that would make a porn star blush.

Leave the PC police badges at home folks, and come have your jaw hit the floor as we sing along with the expletive-undeleted, one and only, SALTY DICK!
