Kid Congo Powers & The Pink Monkeybirds/ The Televisionaries - Thursday 8/15/2024 - 8 PM

THURSDAY, AUGUST 15 at 8:00 PM EDT at Cafe Nine, New Haven, CT

Kid Congo Powers is back at Cafe Nine on the same night as Shake 'N' Vibrate! This is going to be garage rock heaven. Kid Congo Powers and Brendan Toller of WPKN/Shake 'N' Vibrate will be doing exclusive DJ sets in between bands and after the show!

Innovative guitarist Kid Congo Powers has arguably led one of the most colorful careers in rock. Since starting coming to prominence in the late 1970s as a leader within the Los Angeles punk scene, he went on to become a member of The Cramps, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, and The Gun Club, as well as leading his own groups, including The Pink Monkey Birds and the Wolfmanhattan Project. With that last band, he’s just released a new album, Summer Forever and Ever, and he’s simultaneously put out another record, Kid Congo Power and the Near Death Experience Live in St. Kilda, with a one-off band he assembled in Australia. (The In the Red label released both of those albums.) To top off this burst of productivity, Powers has also published Some New Kind of Kick: A Memoir (via Hachette Books), which has earned excellent reviews since its October release. Calling from his home in Tucson, Arizona, Powers reflects on his remarkable career, past and present – and lets it be known that he has no plans to stop creating anytime soon.

Rock 'n' Roll combo from Rickin' Rochester.
Debut LP "Mad About You" OUT NOW from Nu-Tone, a Division of Hi-Tide Recordings.

The McCharmlys are a five-piece combo from Santa Ana, Calif., currently taking the scene by storm with their stylish blend of doo-wop, surf, beat & 60s style rock ‘n’ roll. LA Weekly called the band “an absolute joy” as they “recall sounds from past while adding a contemporary edge that is attractive to punk, new wave and rockabilly fans.”

Taking their name from an obscure Beatles interview, the band was assembled by band leader & primary songwriter Angie Monroy in 2018, carefully selecting key players from the Santa Ana scene. Monroy writes music every day, with influences ranging from The Ramones, Roy Orbison & The Beach Boys. The band’s lush sound is rounded out by layered harmonies & instrumentation that has captivated audiences on stage alongside The Delta Bombers, Josie Cotton, Slim Jim Phantom, Los Yesterdays & more.

The self-titled debut album is streaming now, vinyl in stores worldwide September 15, 2023 from Nu-Tone.
