Audrey Mae is a Connecticut-based band built around the “high-octane” duet harmonies of Peter Winne and Joe Delillo, and instrumental stylings of Joe Lemeris and Sam McDougle. Though a generation apart in age, Winne and Delillo harmonize like old friends, evoking classic brother duos such as the Stanley Brothers and the Blue Sky Boys. Named after Delillo’s Alabama-born mother, Audrey Mae channels the spirit of traditional bluegrass – “at times high octane and at other times just plain… lonesome” – delivering foot-tapping fiddle tunes one moment and plaintive ballads the next. Their repertoire honors the roots (you might hear an old Stanley Brothers number or an Everly Brothers tune) while infusing a fresh, contemporary energy. With “duet harmonies of bluegrass veterans” anchoring the sound, expect crisp guitar and banjo picking, soulful fiddle leads, and the kind of close harmony singing that gives you chills.
