SPECIAL EARLY SHOW: Peter
Case • Case began his career as a teenage street
musician in L.A. during the heyday of punk before forming
the seminal power pop bands The Plimsouls and The Nerves.
After 30-plus years as one of America's most enduring and
treasured songwriters, Case has made his most direct and
affecting work to date. Case's first album of original material
since 2002, "Let Us Now Praise Sleepy John," is
naked and aching, calling to mind the best of the one-man-and-a-guitar
ethos that has acted as the backbone of American songwriting
since the early 20th century. |

aka Blortz, aka Mark Sultan gets his feet a-stompin' on the
floorboards, his fingers a-twangin' the guitar and his lungs
a-blarin' and whoops up one wild jamboree! The ghosts of
Gene and Eddie supply the fuel for BBQ getting the charcoal
and hickory chunks red hot enough for the rock 'n' roll rack
of ribs he's grilling up. |

Eilen
Jewell • Jewell conveys a plaintive world-weariness
that very much recalls Lucinda Williams. That old-soul quality
pervades the rest of the 27-year-old singer and songwriter's
national debut; but the way she insinuates herself into classic
country, folk and blues styles is very much her own, and
makes this insistently low-key performer one of the freshest
and most exciting new voices in Americana. |

PowerSolo;
w/ The
Danglers • two tremolo-loving, chicken-scratch, rail-thin
guitarists Kim Kix and Atomic Child. And drummer J.C. Benz
plying his trade on just a snare, bass drum, and floor tom.
It would've been good enough had PowerSolo hailed from the
Land of NASCAR. But the fact that this exercise in B-movie
punk-a-billy is coming from Aarhus, Denmark, adds plenty of
delicious cognitive dissonance. These guys put the TRASH back
in trash rock. |

The
Dreadful Yawns; w/ Chris
Bousquet • It’s (pick one: stupid, lazy,
comically shortsighted) to attach a young band to a 40-year-old
song, but the DYs are everything right about The Byrds’ “Ballad
Of Easy Rider.” Our favorite psych/folk/country act
from Cleveland return. |

Amy
LaVere; w/ Jim Aveni • sporting an intoxicating
blend of jazz, pop, swing, rockabilly and "old school" country,

Norah Jones, her feathery voice defies pat categorization,

The
Go; w/ Estrogen
Highs • Upholding the grand Detroit street-rock
tradition, the Go has taken its gutter-slick, maximum impact
guitar rock to new heights the old-fashioned way – by
converting the masses through the power of rock, not-so-pure
and not-so-simple. Dark sunglasses, shaggy manes of hair
and all the swagger you would imagine would still scare your
parents, the Go is a rolling rock party with a fuse set to
blow at any moment. If you're a fan of the Zombies and the
Kinks, DO NOT MISS THIS SHOW!!!! |

in a severely down-slanted era. Her voice is a mixture of
the '60s girl group sound and classic country with its own
quirky nature shining through. Neo-vintage pop chanteusse
Uni joins the party with her ukelele driven pop. Should be

Sam
Lay; w/ Rocky
Lawrence • In the early 1960s Sam Lay began recording
and performing with the founding fathers of blues - Willie
Dixon, Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters. The recordings Lay
made during this time, (including Muddy Waters' Fathers and
Sons album recorded in the '70s), are considered to be among
the definitive works from the careers of Waters and Wolf.
He also laid the controversial beat for Dylan going electric
and shocking the folks at Newport. THIS IS MUSIC HISTORY

was featured in backup vocals and instrumentation on the last
two Avett Brothers records, Four Thieves Gone & Emotionalism. After
spending the early 90s living in New York City (he was Beck's
roommate for a while) playing the subways, Paleface released
a few albums, including Get Off on Sire Records in 1996, and
toured with such acts as The Breeders, Crash Test Dummies and
Billy Bragg. Along with drummer Mo Samalot, this high-energy
two piece has enough catchy tunes in their arsenal to keep
your feet tapping for a week after the show. |
